Day 80.

Another busy day, signed all the papers for the new job, starting on Monday.

A few sketches today. I was watching HELP, the BEATLES movie a little while ago, didn't
finish it. A few retro/modern(?) vehicles for a story. Last are designs for paper sculpture robots.

I've done a lot of drawing in the last three months. I'll do my best to keep it up.
I have at least two hours of transit time, a day, I hope I get to draw on those commutes.
The comic will progress, but at a slower pace than I'd like. Still it will get done.

I will have much to show for CCEE.

Thanks for stopping by. GarSeeYa!

Day 79 Part 2.

More character and prop development. Keeping busy.

Day 79.

More robot designs.  I'm trying to find elements that can tie in all the mechanical creatures.
The steampunk frog, looks to be the way to go. Still having fun. Keep drawing. GarSeeYa!

Day 78.

Work in progress on this little devil, did a sketch of him a while back. I'm still experimenting with painter, getting comfortable with the tools. This is a longer process, compared to the MEAT BAG image.
The bottom images are some of the characters playing for positions in the GN, they are
still evolving as the story develops. Thanks for stopping by. GarSeeYa!

Day 77 Sunday Theme.

This is our regular Sunday challenge. THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPED OVER THE LAZY DOG, submitted bt Jennifer L. This was inked and coloured with pencil crayon.
I drew three different versions of Fox, before sticking with this one. I was going
for a geometrical look, some thing different, but it makes me think of BOLT now. Still, I'm happy with it.

Scarlett Hood revisited. I came across this old project, the story was written and some of the characters designed. I did a quick rendition of Red, and enjoy the results. It's a short story, and I plan on finally finishing it and find a home for it. For publication or online, it'll come.

 Thanks for stopping by. GarSeeYa!

Day 76. Earth Day 2010.

Earth Day 2010. We turned the light off for an hour. My family had strawberries and cream and I drew
by candlelight. A little more of a challenge, but it was something new and a change for the kids.

This week also marks the 5th Anniversary of Maple Ink, a community of like minded creatives that met
on a forum, participated in a 24 hour comic challenge and became friends. Though we out grew the forum, moved on to Facebook and other places, I still hold a special fondness for that old forum.
One day MIC will be gone completely, a distant memory in an ever expanding digital universe.

Thanks to those who participated and I invite former MICers to post more drawings on FB
and the old MIC forum.

 Thank you.

Day 75.

This is the latest T-Shirt/poster design, production was slowed down by technical
difficulties. This is a customizable image, you can add your own photo inside
the helmets and type in names. This is the first products I've created
with this option. More to come. GarSeeYa!!!

Day 74.

Six hours with tech support today. It gave me time to draw with a good old pencil. I got a lot done.
First image is an editorial. There has been a few cases of food tampering in Calgary, this is my take on it. After kid Superman are five pages of sequential for a GN proposal. Still fleshing it out, but it feels good so far. I hope a few people will like it. Let me know what you think. Thank you.
GarSeeYa! Oh the good news today, I accepted the graphic design position, and my pin up
has been chosen to be included in the CCEE 2010 Artbook. Too cool! GarSeeYa!

Day 73.

Tough day today. I had malware tie up my computer system for four hours. I got little done, talking to tech support most of the afternoon. Beware of SECURITY TOOL, it really messed up my laptop.
I got some sketching time, while waiting for them to get their information together. Overseas tech support is still something I'm getting used to. You have to have a lot of patience with people, language barriers can be frustrating, add to that a crippled computer.
Back to the sketches. I don't usually do comic heroes, but I thought I'd give it a shot again.
The cute style gives them a different feel. I like them. Thanks for stopping by. GarSeeYa!

Day 72 Part 2.

Character development, props and environments. This is always the fun part of creating imaginary worlds. I want to be able to do this full time, but I'll keep building it picture by picture, page by page until it is done.
I've been offered three jobs this week. One involves design, but none would have me drawing.
What would I have to do the comic worlds attention? I'll do the work here, see if anybody comes? Gotta keep pushing forward. GarSeeYa!

Day 72.

Coloured this one on painter, after a failed attempt on vector. It came out a lot brighter and
pleasing result. Can I do a whole GN in this style? Exploring the possibilities...I have to start with the story. Thanks for stopping by. GarSeeYa!

Day 71.

I'm doing character designs and story exploration.Things will take a little time to develop, but I'll keep a record of it's process here. I won't reveal everything, but I'll give a little peek once in a while. I 'd like to work full time on this, but I have bills to pay, like most people. I'll keep working on it.

Day 70.

Today was a good day for drawing.
I got to choose the theme: ROBOT IN DISGUISE.We saw so many robots on TV. Bugs Bunny, Herculoids, The Jetsons, Gilligan's Island, Six Million Dollar Man, Transformers, Thundercats , and the list goes on and on. We saw them in movies like Star Wars and Wall E. Comic books, novels, picture books and magazines.

The list goes on and on and the fascination continues.
Artificial intelligence, clothed in steel ,plastic and advanced technology.

They make our cars and home appliances, vacuum our floors, and play with us and serve us.What would happen if they chose not to serve? That is if they could think and choose?

I'm thinking of stories that may come, using these characters. It is always fun to explore and tell your own stories. This was a good exercise for me, as it got a little story telling involved.

It was also another reminder of how natural working with a lead pencil can be. Getting the idea on paper instead of a screen is more concrete and immediate, and gives me personal satisfaction.

Thanks for stopping by.

Day 69.

I attended a memorial service for a respected, influential, talented and much loved
Gentleman. Eugene Ouchi will always be one positive light that shines in my memories
of ACAD. He took the time to listen to his students, treated us with respect and was a friend
to everyone.
It was a packed service today. Family, friends, colleagues and students stood side by side to honor a very special man. He will be missed by so many and will remain in our hearts.
"Keep skating to that pylon, don't stop until you get there."
Have a vision and a goal. Keep pushing for self improvement. Things will fall into place.
"How hard can it be?"

Day 68.

I'm volunteering my talent for church. This is a big event for our community. We have been parishioners at St. Gerard's for twenty years. We were married there, had our sons baptized, saw my parents renew their vows and attended family funeral services all at the same church.

This is a token of appreciation and thanks to our church community.

Day 67. Re-do.

Tweeked the image a little more. Picked up the contrast for clearity. GarSeeYa!

Day 67.

It seems like I've been designing and inventing toys for ages, but I've never seriously looked
into how it is done. Ismail has been kind enough to provide me with links to a couple of companies who hire freelancers, I will put a few images together for a submission.
I do so many "cute" things. I say I do it for the kids, but I enjoy them too.
Thanks for stopping by. GarSeeYa!

Day 66.

I did a few sketches in transit, in blue pencil and defined more in pencil when I got home. This is the best way I explore ideas, letting shapes and lines find their way to connect with ideas. It is a lot like putting together a puzzle a piece at a time, you discover what a picture wants to be.

There is a different process when stories and ideas come first, you have an image inside your head that is then translated on to paper. Tracing an image from your imagination.Everyone works a different way, we turn to what we know and trust, but it is always worth exploring other paths and methods of process.

I need sleep. GarSeeYa!

Day 65

Continued from yesterday. Worked out the scales three different ways, decided to keep it simple. Detail can be overwhelming.

Long day today...did a business networking seminar in the afternoon. Tomorrow an interview for a Graphic Design position. Wish me luck! Thanks for coming by. GarSeeYa!
