Southwood: Calgary Public Library

The show is up for the month of May, 2013

at the Soutwood: Calgary Public Library.

I will be doing a sketch and demo session at the

branch for anyone who would like to watch

or participate. This is a hands on demo and

I will have guests try some of my tools.

Calgary Comic& Entertainment Expo Art Book.

This is the completed image for the

CCEE  2013 Art Book:weird Tales.

I started off with a mermaid and a skeleton

skull octopus.Then moved on to a diving

suit idea morphing into this.

This was my 2012 piece for the Art Book

themed "Wishes and Dreams"

An Olympian, Beauty and a Beast.

 Jarome Iginla was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins,

by the Calgary Flames yesterday. After 16 seasons

playing for the hockey team. This is a small tribute

to a man, who demonstrates sportsmanship, humility,

and a positive spirit as a human being.

The Beauty is an unnamed character in the next Star Trek

motion picture. The last is a beast of a Predator.

 Three in one day, using crow quill pens for the first

two drawings. A bit of brush on the Predator.

The pen slows me down a little as I work with a more controlled line.

I am very happy with the results.

Princess Leia and Jabba the Hutt

This is the third take on Leia in the last month.

Really interesting textures on Jabba's body

and pushes the Princess to the foreground.

A little dry brush work on the suit tonight. I'll have to slow

down the production for a bit with Easter break coming up.

I still have a few more drawings to complete before the CCEE,

some completed work may be left out of the print list.

Weird Al, Michonne and Glenn

 I took a little family time this weekend,

slowed down a bit on drawing.

I won't be posting all the drawings for the 

comic show, just to have a few surprises.

I will be limiting my prints to ten or twenty

and the originals will be for sale.

These were really fun to do, up until 2 AM

working on the last two.

Working in the longer strokes, refine for details.

Switching between the Kuretake brush and Winsor Newton.

Opaque white for highlights like smoke 

and lighting effects.

Tomb Raider Inks.

Mixing it up a little bit...pencils before inks on blue

print image. Gives it a different effect and look.

 Loose pencils, tightened up on the inks.

Keep things interesting try new approaches to get to the same 

objective, take some chances and learn something.

Terminator Ladies and Palpatine

Linda Hamilton and Kristanna Loken

were done on a Sunday afternoon.

The latter piece was done with a synthetic

 brush  pen "kuretake" no.13. Fine crisp

lines at the start.

Ian McDiarmid done on a Monday night. The most

detailed one yet, a very elaborate costume.

This one took some extra time.

  Tuesday night drawing originally drawn by 

Adam Warren.

Free flowing lines, ideal for brush work,

very loose lines.

 I have to make choices on how to interpret

the artists lines...extremely loose lines.

I would have gone with a finer line on the cross hatching,

given another chance.

My computer was out for servicing,

so some delays on posting. Up and running again.

Brush Pens,Gaius and Six

These brushes are my current favourites.

I have done a simple comparison with the different brushes.

Windsor Newton and Kuretake natural hair, works best for me.

The latter has more "spring" and a nice clean sharp edge, when new.

I can do an entire page with one cartridge on the Kuretake.

The traditional brush gives me more "thick to thin" as

the hairs are thinner and longer. Regulating the amount of ink

that loads is the trick to learn.

They are beautiful things that can create magic on paper.

A tool that has changed little in centuries, and has given

many people knowledge,beauty and expression.

This is the Kuretake natural hair brush.

Loving the lines.

Filling the blacks with a broader brush.

Finished and wanting to move on to the next one.
