Day 150.

I bought a pack of blank trading cards yesterday.

Made by Strathmore, Bristol paper cut 2.5"X3.5",

20 per pack. These are ideal for ATC (Artist

Trading Cards).

The ATC movement started in 1997 by Swiss

artist M. Vanci Stirnemann, with an exhibition

of 1200 hand made cards. He invited other artists

to create and trade cards on the last day of the show.

It has become a popular creative and social event,

in communities around the world.

Calgary holds an ATC swap and meet at the

New Gallery (Art Central) on the last Saturday,

every month. Participants and observers are welcome.

The Card Packs can be picked up at Studio Todorovic.

Day 149.

Going downtown to do some sketching today,

just for a change of scene and mix things up.

Cross walk 10 second sketches. People on the move, brief impressions,

sometimes drawing from memory. Just a short time at a coffee shop,

catching the late morning rush downtown . There were a few cowboy

hats on the event hosts, for the petroleum show.

Yellow bus was on the sidewalk, setting up a hot dog stand.

Day 148.

This is one of many drawings I've done in bed.

I've made a habit of free-line sketching before

falling asleep. Free line: no construction or

preconceived ideas. Ink marks running

and exploring a field of white.

Day 147.

Ink monsters.

I picked up bottled ink for fountain pens,and copier cartridges.

It is like an ink addiction(ha...add-ink-tion).Expensive for

a bit of carbon, but is a creative need to feed.

I don't have  a Sunday theme today...

making one up." Redesign or update characters for

70's or 8Os's Saturday morning cartoons".

I chose SPACE KIDETTES, I saw them for the first time

on a Hanna Barbera DVD collection a few months ago.

Very similar design to the GREAT GAZOO.

Day 143.

I've got some old Pitt pens that I've re-filled with ink,

they make thick messy lines, it works best on larger

drawings.

The image is influenced by Lego,my boys

have been playing the Indiana Jones video games,

every day. The music gets stuck in my head.

I recently saw the movie: WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE,

this influenced some of the monsters on this page. They may

be a little too evil for young kids and the spider and mouse

could disturb some people.Self censorship is an unusual thing

to steer sometimes.Some days you go with the flow and draw

what ever comes to mind, only to see things in a different light

upon completion.

The drawing material changed with this one too. The line quality

has changed since I first started using this pen, the ink bleeds more into the

new paper. I think drawing supplies make a difference. I've been drawing

on 11"X17 "20 lbs copy paper, switched to a heavier stock, but not

happy with it. Funny how long I've been doing this and still looking

for the right "groove".

I'm still making little discoveries with this process,

so much to develop, on something that has not been

fully explored. A combination of math and art.
