Joe Madureira Wolverine, Ink Study.

Joe Madureira has been a favourite Artist, since his early

"X-Men" work for Marvel Comics and "Battle Chasers"

for Cliffhanger-Image.

 This is my fifth attempt at inking another artists work.

It has been a very informative process and something

I've come to enjoy.

Most of the inks here were done with the

Kuretake synthetic brush pen. It still has

its sharp point, so well suited for this job.

 The chain links took the most time to do

on this piece.

 I left filling in the blacks for last.

A very cool page to complete.

at the Calgary Comic & Entertaiment Expo!

Alien and Iron Man.

 I miss placed the camera on the weekend,

so I had to scan the artwork.

Lots of work in these two, but the challenge was interesting.

Lighting, focus, values all work together in a balance to make

a picture work. I am working from photographs and the

real puzzle is making it all work in ink lines.

Less than a month to the convention...still lots

to do, but I think I have enough images for the show.

Supergirl and Black Widow.

Two today...inked sitting on the couch, not at home this day.

Superman :Jim Lee Pencils.

Working in the longer strokes, refine for details.

Switching between the Kuretake brush and Winsor Newton.

Opaque white for highlights like smoke 

and lighting effects.

Batman Finishes

 This was my starting point. Pencils by David Finch.

I finished the figure and the stone facade.

Took a straight edge to do all the lines in perspective.

Finch really took his time on the background

architectural detail.

Lots and lots of bricks.

 This one took a lot longer to do compared to the Spawn page.

 I set the background in lighter lines to give it depth.

Overall, I am happy with the completed work!

Charles and Batman.

 Another day drawing, starting with Charles.

I liked his photo and wanted to experiment with

an ink brush rendition from the photo.

It was a quick exercise, followed by something more challenging...

...another David Finch work.

 Very fine line work. There is some guess work with this one.

 I'm sure working over actual pencils would make a huge difference.

Still I am learning a lot with these inking exercises.

Finch-Spawn Ink Practice.

 This is my little invention, a tiny cup within a cup, used for inking.

I drilled two holes on a twist off lid of a dollar store container.

The smaller cup is a hairspray lid cover, two sizes fitted together,

so it is removable for cleaning. The larger container is for water.

The brush or nib is not over saturated using this method, keeping

a lighter touch when "loading" the brush.

 Brush stroke practices, line variation and control.

Inking is always something I enjoy doing, but I've only

inked my own work. I thought I would try an experiment,

inking another artist's pencils.

I chose Spawn drawn by Dave Finch,

who has a very organic line work that I can work with.

I started with the cape and hand.

Surprisingly, I can work faster on someone else s finished pencils.

The guess work is left out for the most part.

 I should be able to finish this in one sitting.

So far so good, figure is done.

I will post the finished page soon as it is done.

DC Heroes/Villains

 Getting a few doodles done. (ABP book goes to print June.)

Taking some drawing time for myself.

I haven't picked up a recent comic in months and I am totally lost

in the DC Universe now. I still think of the characters in their old

costumes, and doing some guess work on a lot of it.

Still fun to do. I haven't done a serious/realistic figure in years too,

might have to try it again soon. Gotta mix things up, once in a while.

Day 105.

Day 2 at CCEE. Drew these images for sale, git them done lat in the day.

Very busy on the aisles, it gets "bottle necked "sometimes in our area.

Still a good show. I get to sign alot of books in a day and I get to meet old
