Getting Ready for More Conventions!

Waiting for the Walking Dead to start up again in February.

My next comic show is at the Hillhurst, 

Calgary Comic Collectors Show

on February  1st, 2014.

This was my set up at Lethbridge Expo.

I have also applied for a spot at the Vancouver expo,

waiting for confirmation, and will update on more shows.

Keeping busy as the list unfolds.

I am using white out pens for highlights,

big juicy brushes for the long strokes.

 

I scratch it up with a knife, giving

a nice rough surface.

Fun to do and more to come.

Best Show Ever!

It was a very good weekend for me,

 at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo.

The Reedus and Dinklage were my top two sellers.

Norman Reedus requested three of my prints, 

in exchange for an autograph. I was happy

to give it to him.

Peter Dinklage also got one of my prints

and was surprised when I got him to

sign the original.

I will be at Comic-Kazi on Macleod Tr.

or Free Comic Book Day: Saturday May Th,2013.

Fiona Staples and Damian Wilcox are also

expected to make an appearance.

It is always a festive time at Comic-Kazi

as their 19th Anniversary is just around the corner.

Princess and Zombie Fighter

This one was a little more of a challenge with the lighting effects.

Rendering shadows and reflected light, using lines is always

a fun little puzzle. An excellent practice in in line weight

variation and control.

I've seen a few episodes of Walking Dead,

and read the early chapters of the comic book,

but not something I can watch with my young kids around.

Carrie Fisher in the iconic dress...

was another lighting challenge,

more delicate with shorter

brush strokes.

Brush Pens,Gaius and Six

These brushes are my current favourites.

I have done a simple comparison with the different brushes.

Windsor Newton and Kuretake natural hair, works best for me.

The latter has more "spring" and a nice clean sharp edge, when new.

I can do an entire page with one cartridge on the Kuretake.

The traditional brush gives me more "thick to thin" as

the hairs are thinner and longer. Regulating the amount of ink

that loads is the trick to learn.

They are beautiful things that can create magic on paper.

A tool that has changed little in centuries, and has given

many people knowledge,beauty and expression.

This is the Kuretake natural hair brush.

Loving the lines.

Filling the blacks with a broader brush.

Finished and wanting to move on to the next one.

Peter Dinklage Inks.

 I recently got my new Kuretake brush tip replacement...

it has been MAGIC. I am really enjoying the work.

Able to do super thin lines for now,

but it will wear down eventually.

The cartridge brush gives me more freedom

and control, compared to a traditional

brush. The "no ink dip" factor keeps the lines flowing smoother.

 Something different. I was a fan of SCTV years ago

and thought of Canadian icons to zombiefy...

...and this is what came out of it.

Trying to keep it fun.

All the brush line work is done on the Kuretake brush pen.

I just got the replacement tip and breaking it in.

Firefly in Ink.

 On a Sunday afternoon snowstorm...drawing some more.

This time FIREFLY. Started with a low contrast photo.

 Inking directly on top. No pencils. Interpreting the photo

in line work with brush and pen.

Laid out all the broad strokes in black, detail work follows.

Fine lines to finish.

This is a new approach for me, and something to keep practising.

It keeps me busy drawing and learning.
